Global Citizen, Teacher and Global Education Collaboration Specialist
Mr. Carter is a Social Studies teacher in international schools specializing in opening his students' eyes to global studies. In addition to his middle school classes, he has designed and implemented an innovative new class called "Connect," which uses global collaboration to help instill global citizenship in his students. He is a practitioner of mindfulness in the classroom, using visualization and stress-reduction techniques to help his students succeed.
He is a proud graduate of the Teach Now teacher preparation program, and is accredited in Washington, DC.
In seventeen years of international experience, Adam has traveled, taught, worked and studied in over eighty countries. After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1996, he began traveling the world. In the years since, he obtained his Masters in International Affairs from George Washington University, received a Fulbright Scholarship in Spain, wrote travel guidebooks, served as intern with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and launched several humanitarian projects. He founded the Cause & Affect Foundation in 2009 and has been assisting well-run local projects on four continents through his "micro-philanthropy" model. In recent years, he has delivered motivational speeches to schools, conferences and universities about his efforts to combine social activism and education. He has pursued education in order to instill global citizenship in his students. He is currently teaching middle school social studies at Schutz American School in Alexandria, Egypt. He is a certified Flipped Class Educator and iPad Prepared Educator and also completed the Flat Connections Global Educator Course (www.flatconnections.com) which is an innovative professional development course to help teachers connect, communicate, collaborate and co-create across classrooms. He is very interested in flipped classes, brain-based learning, integrating meditative practice and tech tools into his teaching approach. He is also a Model United Nations coach at Schutz.
