Alicia Meyers

First-Grade Teacher and Author

Alicia Meyers is a neurodivergent author and first-grade teacher in Washington, DC, with DC public schools, and a former teacher with KIPP DC public charter schools. Over the past 15 years, she has taught preschool-3, preschool-4, kindergarten, and first grade, and been a member of her school’s academic leadership team as well as the music director for their spring musical productions. Her master’s degree and certification are both in early childhood education (preschool-third grade).

She has previously published with Little Thoughts Press Magazine for her nonfiction piece, “Real Life Superheroes: Conquering Dyslexia” (2024), The Dirigible Balloon for her poem, “A Sensory Second” (2024), and her school for an article, “The Tyler Tiger Literacy Toolbox: 7 Pieces of the Reading Puzzle,” (2022). Her debut picture book, Tic-errific Me, about the ins and outs of a child with Tourette syndrome, is coming to a shelf near you in 2026. Alicia will also be included in a poetry anthology with The Dirigible Balloon in late 2024 and has an article coming out with the SCBWI Mid-Atlantic Highlighter entitled, “The Relax & Read Experience” (2024).
