Beth Rheingold is Director of School and Community Engagement at CHAI, a nonprofit in Baltimore, MD. An educator for nearly 20 years, in both higher education and at the secondary independent school level, Beth is passionate about utilizing her two decades of educational knowledge to engage key stakeholders in implementing positive educational change. In her current role, Beth works with principals, parents, teachers, and political leaders to support school and community engagement in public schools in Baltimore County and City.
Beth taught English for ten years at McDonogh School, where she was the yearbook adviser for a nationally-recognized yearbook, the Legacy, the winner of a Gold Medal from Columbia Scholastic Press Association (2010), and several silver medals. She has taught poetry, drama, ghost stories, novel, American and British literature, and AP Writing. As yearbook adviser for ten years, Beth taught journalism, Adobe InDesign, principles of graphic design, project management, and leadership skills. Beth has been a judge for CSPA. Beth taught at Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julia College), as well as SUNY-Buffalo, where she received a Ph.D. in English.
From 2000-2003, Beth worked and taught in the Department of Media Study at SUNY-Buffalo as a Director of Undergraduate Studies. Working with media artists furthered Beth's interest in the interface between technology and writing. To this end, Beth conceives of students as writers, makers, artists, and composers. Her assignments engage students in mediums with which they are familiar as users, but not necessarily as creators: podcasts, digital essays, brochures, short films, multi-media presentations, and performances.
