David Palank
Principal of San Miguel School Washington DC
I am currently principal at San Miguel School in Washington, DC. 95% of our school population is eligible for Free and Reduced Meals and 100% of San Miguel alumni graduate high school. Students enroll at San Miguel significantly below grade level. Last year's average was a fourth grade reading level when they enrolled. They graduate at or above grade level and then are 100% are accepted to college prep high schools with scholarships. San Miguel School uniquely serves low-income youth in the DC area with a preference for those living in poverty and who would not otherwise have access to a high quality private education. We are a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization.
I am a big proponent of Social emotional learning. Although these non-cognitive skills are hard to define, I believe that the focus on developing these skills will be the focus of education in the 21st century.
