Joseph Manfre
Mathematics Educator
Joseph Manfre is a mathematics educator, writer, and consultant. He believes mathematics a’o (teaching and learning) should honor the variability of learner processing times and mechanisms, empower students to create and teach others, and foster and cultivate empathy. He is a Distinguished Modern Classrooms Educator (DMCE), Modern Classrooms Expert Mentor, and has a B.A. in mathematics, M.Ed. in instructional leadership, and GCERT in ethnomathematics. In 2018, he was co-awarded a Hawai‘i Innovation Fund grant for Student-led Heterogeneous Learning Communities (SHLC), an instructional routine to empower student leaders in a semi-autonomous classroom environment.
